Crescendo France — Music Road Rwanda
Marie-Elisabeth Hecker (cello), Martin Helmchen (piano),
Olivier Zwicky, and Rev. George Hobson
An evening of music and poetry, organized by the association of Christian musicians Crescendo France (www.crescendofrance.org), will be held in the ACP sanctuary on 11 January at 20h00. The program will feature Marie-Elisabeth Hecker (cello) and Martin Helmchen (piano) playing music by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, and Bloch, together with poems read by Olivier Zwicky and Rev. George Hobson, Canon to the Bishop for Theological Education for the Anglican Diocese of Europe. Based in Berlin, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Martin Helmchen are both internationally-renowned musicians. Since winning the International Rostropovitch Cello Competition in Paris in 2005, Marie-Elisabeth has appeared as a soloist with the Munich Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphony Orchestra Berlin, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, while Martin has played concertos with the Berlin, Vienna and London Philharmonic Orchestras, the Boston Symphony, and the Orchestre de Paris. Both have recorded numerous CDs.
Proceeds from the evening will go towards their Music Road Rwanda project, developed in collaboration with Crescendo International, Agapé, the Goethe Institute, and a music school in Kigali, Rwanda. The objectives of this initiative include teacher training, scholarships for orphans and other needy children, music therapy for trauma victims, and partnership with churches in promoting traditional Rwandan instruments in present-day musical culture.
Free entrance, free-will offering.
